Current Rule: Any player added mid season during Free Agency is automatically assigned a 1 year, $1 contract. They become FA at the end of the season subject to normal FA rules. 1 year, $1 contracts can be added/dropped without penalty
Proposed Rule: A player added mid season during Free Agency may be assigned a 1 year OR 2 year contract, both for $1. If assigned a 1 year/$1 contract, rules remain the same. If assigned a 2 year/$1 contract, the player may be kept the extra duration on the roster until free agency the following year. However, if the 2 year player is dropped, the normal penalty applies to the dead cap for dropped contracts. AKA they would not be a “free drop” but you get the benefit of an extra year prior to free agency for the player

This has the potential to really soften the free agent market more. Its an interesting idea tho. I almost wonder if u do it that way if the ufa u sign mid season goes up in price for the second season. If in fact we passed this change

This one is a very interesting idea, though I think it would need some tweaking in order to work:
1. $1/$1 i dont think is enough of a risk, though I don't know what the right number is offhand. Most FAs can be resigned for $10 in the offseason, so maybe $5/$5 instead. Like, you have to be pretty certain at that point you want them for two years.
2. I would stipulate for sure that the player would need to be beyond our ML thresholds to be allowed a two year deal
