*COMMISH NOTE*: I really hope everyone will vote YES for this rule change, as the setup as it currently stands isn't reasonable, but changing it drastically without a vote i don't feel is fair, since I admittedly have a handful of guys I'd buyout in the new method, but not the prior
Currently, the arbitration buy out system will result in very, very few players having their contracts bought out, and no one having a second year bought out. The intent was to make it so that teams could retain players up to two extra years, with the added risk of higher AND guaranteed contracts. But the current buyout prices, as mentioned, are exorbitant, even for current ML40/50 contracts.
The updated proposal for buying out ML/ARB players is as follows:
ML40/50/1: Each year after the final arbitration year can be bought out for an additional $3. So, the salary for each year would be: $1 -> $1 -> $2 -> $4 -> $8 -> $11 (buyout year 1) -> $14 (optional BO year 2)
ML2: The BO price increases to +$7, making the salary each year: $1 -> $2 -> $4 -> $8 -> $15 (BO year 1) -> $22 (BO year 2)
ARB1: The BO price increases to +$12 for each buyout season
ARB2: The BO price increases to +$18 for each buyout season
Voting YES means adopting the updated system
Voting NO means continuing with the current system
Additional note: IF the rule change passes, for this offseason only, players with a ML2 contract can be bought out with the ML1 prices, since they never got the opportunity under fairer prices. And anyone bought out last season (one player) will be adjusted to the new prices, and will be allowed to add the second season, if they wish to.
